Convicted Missouri Preparer Barred

A St. Charles, Mo., tax preparer who was sentenced to six month in prison earlier this year, has now been barred from preparing federal tax returns for others. William Naes drew the prison term for collecting $150,480 in disability benefits from 2005 and 2013 while still running his tax preparation business.

Naes was also ordered to make restitution to the Social Security Administration after he failed to disclose what was called significant income from his tax business.

This month’s action stemmed from allegations by the Department of Justice that he prepared tax returns for clients that utilized bogus deductions charitable contributions and unreimbursed employee business expenses He also fabricated business expenses, concocted a fake business for at least one customer and failed to identify himself as a paid preparer on many returns.
